Please attend tonight's meeting (see the calendar for more info).  We have a variety of topics we need to discuss, including some that are very important to the success of the Iowa Omicron chapter.

Convention 2011

After getting online to register our chapter for the convention this week, it seemed as though our chapter does not yet have enough funds to go to the 2011 convention.  Registration is $85-$100 per person, and then the total cost for the hotel room would be about $228.  I'm not sure how much renting the car would cost us, but without it, we'd still be paying around $630 for the convention this year.

Due to monetary reasons, then, it looks like the Iowa Omicron chapter will not be traveling to the 2011 convention in Chicago, Ill., but will have to wait until the 2012 convention, which will be held in San Jose, CA.

In order to raise enough money to fund next year's trip, we need to start fundraising NOW!  We've got a meeting tonight at 7:30 at Becky's place... we're going to be making brownies and discussing future fundraising projects to help fund costs like registration, airfare, and hotel expenses for the 2012 trip.  Check your email this afternoon for details.

PTS 2010!!!

Hey!

I'm Kelsey Kaufman, and I'm the current president of Pi Tau Sigma (PTS): Iowa Omicron.  This is the new website/blog for the University of Iowa's chapter of Pi Tau Sigma, the international mechanical engineering honors fraternity.  For the past couple of years, the Iowa Omicron chapter has been labeled as "inactive" due to the lack of recruitment.  Beginning last semester (Spring 2010), recruitment began again, and is now in full swing!  This semester, it is my hope to integrate all of the new members by organizing a few fundraising and service-based events.

In the past, we've cooked for the Ronald McDonald House located on the west edge of campus.  In order to reactivate PTS, our first order of business is fundraising... As we're raising money, PTS members will be planning and organizing service events.  Ideas for service events this semester include a Ronald McDonald House dinner, visits to cancer patients in the UIHC, and volunteering at Habitat for Humanity builds (hopefully before it gets too chilly!).

The calendar seen above will display events as they are planned and meeting times as they are announced.  PTS' kick-off meeting for the semester will be held on OCTOBER 4TH at 6:30 PM in 3220 SC.  This meeting is mainly to get to know all of the new inductees, decide on service events for the semester, and to answer any general questions that students might have.  Again, meeting times will be posted HERE on the calendar above as they are announced, so be sure to check back occasionally!

If you can't attend the first meeting, are interested in joining, or have any questions, please contact me!!!  Also, make sure to check out our facebook group!

I'm looking forward to a great semester... I hope to see you all at the beginning of October!
